Win Your Next Words with Friends Game

Words with Friends (WWF) has become a global phenomenon, bringing the classic joy of word building to mobile devices everywhere. While it shares many similarities with Scrabble, winning at WWF requires a specific set of strategies and knowledge of its unique rules and tile values.

WWF vs. Scrabble: Key Differences

Understanding these differences is crucial for players transitioning between the two games:

  • Board Layout: WWF features a different distribution of Double Word (DW), Triple Word (TW), Double Letter (DL), and Triple Letter (TL) squares. Notably, the TW squares are further apart in WWF.
  • Tile Values: Several letters have different point values. For example, 'J' is 10 points in WWF but only 8 in Scrabble. 'H' is 3 points in WWF but 4 in Scrabble.
  • Total Tiles: WWF uses 104 tiles, whereas Scrabble uses 100. This changes the probability of drawing specific letters.

Winning Strategies for Words with Friends

1

Play Defensively

The WWF board layout can be dangerous. Always check if your high-scoring move opens up a Triple Word Score square for your opponent on their next turn.

2

Maximize the "S" Tiles

With more tiles in the game, holding onto an 'S' is even more powerful for creating hooks and playing two words at once. Save them for high-value turns.

3

WWF allows several 2-letter words that aren't valid in Scrabble. Use our Cheat Sheet to master these essential short words for parallel play.
